Farmer commits suicide in Congress office

In a shocking incident, a farmer tried to end his life by drinking pesticide in Congress’s state headquarters Gandhi Bhavan on Friday over the negligence of the government towards the hardhips of the farmers.

The farmer identified as D.Venkateswarulu of Khammam district was rushed to a hospital after he took the extreme step. Accordign to sources he had two letters in his pocket addressed to Agriculture minister and caretaker CM.

In his letters he wrote, “Tenant farmers like me are getting no help from from the government and are buried deep in debts. Many have already committed suicide but there is no change. Kiran Kumar Reddy had promised to do something for the farmers but only the government has changed. You have crores to conduct meetings but nothing to give us. I have a debt of 9 lacs that I can’t repay hence I am taking this step. Take care of my family atleast.”

Several farmers had expressed rage after the government refused to give tenant farmers who comprise 50% of the farming sector, the Rythu Bandhu assistance of Rs.4000 per acre per person as they thought it is equal to provide legal rights to the farmer over the land.
