NTR Kathanayakudu, the first part of NTR biopic is carrying superb buzz among the trade circles. Directed by Krish, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s check whether it lived up to the hype or not.
The film opens with an emotional scene between Harikrishna (Kalyan Ram) and his mother Basavatarakam(Vidya Balan). Showing an album she starts narrating the life story of her husband (NTR). How did NTR start his journey in the film industry? What are the struggles he faced in the initial stages? How he attain a demigod image among the common public? Which circumstances made him establish a political party? The answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
Firstly, director Krish should be given credits for narrating the story cleverly in the perspective of NT Rama Rao’s wife Basavatarakam. Though the idea is good, Krish failed to narrate the film with proper drama. Dialogues writer Burra Sai Madhav dialogues okay but not so great.
Coming to lead artists performance, Balakrishna walked into the role of his father’s and tried his best to justify it. Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is a surprise package in the film and she lived in the role of Basavatarakam. Sumanth as ANR is believable and did justice to his role. Kalyan Ram as Nandamuri Harikrishna, Rana as Chandra Babu Naidu perfectly fit the bill. All the contemporary heroines, who are seen in a scene or two are okay as yesteryear actress. MM Keeravani disappoints with his music as his background score and songs are not up to the mark.
Balakrishna’s terrific performance
Vidya Balan’s performance
Has documentary feel to it
Lack of emotional depth
All in all, NTR Kathanayakudu is the life story of NT Rama Rao which will impress the followers of Nandamuri family. Balayya’s portrayal of Sr NTR is impressive, but the film will end up as a one-time watch for the regular audience.
