Three days after his removal from the party posts, MLA A. Revanth Reddy finally resigned from the Telugu Desam Party on Saturday.
Revanth Reddy, who flew to Vijayawada along with his supporters, met TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and submitted his resignation soon after first round of meeting. He reportedly handed over his resignation to Naidu’s private secretary and immediately left for Hyderabad.
There were speculations that Revanth Reddy might join the Congress party after he reportedly met AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. After his return, he not only defended his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, but also criticised TDP leaders of Andhra Pradesh for their relations with Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. Although Revanth denied reports of his exit from TDP, he was removed from the post of Working President and floor leader in Assembly.
On Saturday, Chandrababu Naidu reportedly invited party leaders from Telangana including state president L Ramna and M Narasimhulu for a discussion. But Revanth Reddy reportedly went for the meeting with his resignation letter.
However, Naidu, who addressed a press conference later, said that he was not in receipt of the resignation letter. He also tried to downplay the issue by saying, “People come and go. Party stays. Few people, based on their present needs, take certain decisions.”
