Rajinikanth has now been awarded the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and this was made official by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday. He called Rajini one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema and said that the actor was being awarded for his contribution towards the field of acting, production and screenwriting in Indian cinema.
Rajinikanth is called Thalaivar (leader) by his fans, and he was the definition of pan-Indian stardom for decades together, before it really became a trend. Rajini rose to fame with hits like Baasha, Padayappa, Sivaji and Enthiran.
