TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu hoped Pulivarthi Nani would register a big victory from Chandragiri constituency in 2019 election but that did not happen. YCP candidate Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy won the election by a huge margin and Chandrababu’s long wait for a victory in his hometown was extended by 5 years.
Despite the poor result, Chandrababu placed his trust in Nani and appointed him as TDP Chittoor district in-charge.
However, Nani is having a tough time in Chandrababu’s home district Chittoor as the ruling party YSRC forces are overpowering TDP leaders.
Incidentally, TDP leaders in Chittoor called for a Maha Padayatra today in protest against the YCP government for delaying Handriniva project. But had to pull out later due to law and order concerns. TDP could not even hold a major political event in Chittoor after losing power and that speaks a lot about the position of the party in the district.
YCP senior leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has been handed over with the party responsibilities in Chittoor district and he has been doing a good job, opine political analysts.
TDP managed to win 1 out of the total 14 MLA seats in Chandrababu’s home district Chittoor in 2019 election. Can Pulivarthi Nani rejuvenate the party and get things back on track by next election? As things stand, it would be a huge challenge for the relatively passive politician.
