The Chinese embassy in Kazakhstan has said that the local media has since that almost 500 people have been infected with the pneumonia in three regions since mid-June.

However, Kazakhstan’s healthcare ministry has trashed the Chinese media reports and said that they are baseless.

The ministry also said that its tallies of bacterial, fungal and viral pneumonia infections, which also included cases of unclear causes, were in line with World Health Organisation guidelines.
