AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, leaders of various Muslims organisations have condemned the TRS government for the demolition of two mosques in the premises of the old secretariat in Hyderabad.
They said that the demolition of these mosques was ‘tragic’ and ‘unconstitutional’, and that it went against their sentiments.
Owaisi’s AIMIM is an ally of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), and if the TRS fails to reconstruct two mosques in the place of the demolished ones, then it would be a problem for them.
Muslims demanded that new mosques have to be constructed in the same place, and that they wouldn’t accept their reconstruction elsewhere.
In 2008, during the rule of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in united Andhra Pradesh, the minorities welfare department had released Rs 35 lakh for the renovation of these mosques and the work was completed in 2010.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the TRS government hurt the sentiments of the Hindus as well, by demolishing a temple at the old secretariat complex. He recalled that in a letter to the chief minister on June 27, 2019 he had appealed to him to save the places of worship.
