Review : Lakshmi’s NTR

Amidst good hype, Ram Gopal Varma’s political drama, Lakshmi’s NTR has hit the screens in the USA. Let’s check how it is

Story :

Lakshmi’s NTR starts after NTR’s miserable loss in 1989 elections. Then Parvathi(Lakshmi Parvathi) visits NTR’s residency to write his biography. Eventually, NTR gets close to Parvathi and marries her. Thereafter NTR wins the 1994 general election with a thumping majority. With the rise of Parvathi’s image in the party, Chandrababu along with NTR’s family members support decides to take over the party. Rest of the story is how NTR is backstabbed by CBN? and what reasons lead to his death are being showcased in a realistic manner.

Analysis :

Looks like Ram Gopal Varma seriously concentrated in making Lakshmi’s NTR. Though the film falls flat at times, a few crucial episodes like NTR announcing marriage with Parvathi and Viceroy episode are executed effectively. The climax episode where NTR was left powerless and his suffering is being showcased in an emotional manner. The film mainly focuses on the bonding between NTR and Lakshmi Parvathi but as an overview, it looks more like Lakshmi Parvathi’s one-sided version and she is projected as an innocent and good lady.

Coming to artist performance, the stage actor who portrayed NTR is not so convincing as the legendary actor. His screen presence and dialogue delivery are not up to mark. Yagna Shetty is good in her role as Parvathi. Her acting in emotional scenes with NTR is nice. The guy who did CBN’s role did perfect justice to the negative shaded role.

All other actors who portrayed various real-life characters did a decent job.

Plus Points :

Realistic narration

Background score

Minus Points :

Slow paced at times

Not so engaging drama

An overdose of Lakshmi Parvathi’s self-projection

Verdict :

All in all, Lakshmi’s NTR is a biography of NTR’s life post his marriage to Lakshmi Parvathi and 989 elections to the end of his life. RGV narrates the film in a realistic manner by taking Lakshmi Parvathi’s one-sided version which may not get universal acceptance. But considering the present political fever and controversy surrounding the film, it has fare chances to get a good opening at the box office.
