Pawan Kalyan has returned to the big screens after a break of three years with his latest outing Vakeel Saab. The Pawan Kalyan starrer is a remake of Pink and it is one of the highly anticipated films of the year. Let’s see how the movie is.
Vemula Pallavi (Nivetha Thomas), Zareena (Anjali), and Ananya (Ananya Nagalla) are three middle class ladies who get into a huge altercation with a group of men, led by Vamshi (Vamsi Krishna). While the girls try to move on from the incident, the men threaten them and eventually kidnap Pallavi and get her arrested. When all seems lost, Satyadev (Pawan Kalyan) takes up the case and fights the men in court. Can Satyadev make sure that the three ladies get due justice? What are the challenges he faces in the process? Watch the film to know the answers.
Pawan Kalyan runs the show with his trademark mannerisms and body language. He brings freshness to the role. He brings out the actor in him with Vakeel Saab. A memorable comeback for sure. Nivetha Thomas, Anjali, and Ananya Nagalla all have their moments to shine and they do pretty well. Prakash Raj does well as always, and of the other actors, Vamsi Krishna and Amit Sarma create an impact with their performance.
The movie does well to keep the soul of Pink for the most part with a racy screenplay, especially in the first 45 minutes, with enough emotional impact. Another positive is the music by Thaman. All the songs are pictured well and leave a very good impact, including the musical surprise in the second half.
The major negative in this movie is the flashback . Coming at a time where the story is progressing well, the flashback disrupts everything and serves as an unneeded speed break that distorts the main message and centers the movie around Pawan Kalyan.
The commercial elements, such as the metro and interval fight, are presented well but they deviate from the main plot. Pink’s main message about women empowerment seems to be marginalized when there are heroic fights and dialogues projecting Pawan Kalyan as the saviour.
Thaman produces one of his finest works with Vakeel Saab. The pulsating BGM brings life to the court scene and so many mass moments on the screen. His songs are also goosebump-inducing and evoke an emotional connect. The dialogues are good and so is PS Vinod’s cinematography. Production values are rich.
Coming to the director Venu Sriram, he has done a decent job with the movie. His plot is mostly the same as Pink, but he has added a flashback and some fights to the story which make it a mixed bag. He utilized Pawan Kalyan very well and extracted the very best from the latter.
Despite being laced with more commercial ingredients when compared to the original, Vakeel Saab keeps the core point intact. Pawan Kalyan, Prakash Raj, Anjali, Ananya and Nagalla deliver excellent performances. But on the flip side, a rather weak flashback, and a bit too many hero-centric scenes tamper the flow of the film. To sum it up, Vakeel Saab a partly engaging social drama.
